On Monday morning, a pipe burst on the fourth floor of the University Suites, flooding several rooms. Students woke to fire alarms and were forced to evacuate without knowing what was happening. Students were sent back inside after nearly half an hour in below-freezing weather. They received no notification from the university, with most information coming from fellow students who were stuck outside. Once back inside their rooms, students found the university had placed large fans inside without warning. Some students made the choice to find somewhere else to sleep for the night due to the noise.
“They didn’t warn us about the fans either. We just walked in, and they were there,” said Reagan Cool, a University Suites resident.
This is not the first time University Suites have flooded. Two years ago, a pipe burst on the fourth floor, causing approximately 80 of the 300 residents to relocate entirely. Residents said the situation is frustrating, considering University Suites is one of the most expensive housing options on campus.
