- Latin Dance Club, ALAS host Ritmo Under the Lights at UCO
- Event introduces bachata, salsa and reggaeton in a beginner-friendly setting
The Latin Dance Club (LDC) and Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) are hosting a cultural dance social called “Ritmo Under the Lights” on April 9. The event was planned and organized by the presidents of the respective clubs, Caden Hankinson of the LDC and Daniela Garces of the ALAS.
The event will be a beginner-friendly environment and will introduce attendees to Latin dance styles like bachata, salsa and reggaeton.
There will be a handful of experienced dancers. Caden said he would be happy to show students some moves.
Daniela said this night is not about being a perfect dancer, but about the music and the culture. “I’ve always wanted to create spaces where Latin American culture is not only seen but truly experienced,” she said.
Caden, president and founder of the LDC, discovered his love for Latin dance at an event not so different from “Ritmo Under the Lights.” He was invited by his father and stepmom, and after declining multiple times, he decided to accept. “I just fell in love with it … what became a singular invite from my parents became a very big part of my life,” Caden said.
Daniela said, “I hope students leave feeling connected, not just to the culture, but to each other.”
Caden said students will leave with “a big ole’ smile.”
The event will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Nigh University Center, Heritage Room 326. Food and drink will be provided.
