The UCO Department of Musical Theatre will perform Tuck Everlasting for its spring main stage production April 23 through 26 in Mitchell Hall.
Tuck Everlasting is a musical based on the 1975 book of the same name by Natalie Babbitt. The story follows a young girl named Winnie Foster who meets the Tuck family, who have accidentally stumbled upon a spring of eternal life.
Through the course of the show, Winnie falls in love and has to decide if she will drink from the fountain and live forever or accept that she will eventually die. “The show focuses a lot on gratitude and what a gift life is. It has some really emotional moments that just hit you,” said senior Emma Valgora, who plays Winnie Foster.
With the musical version being performed for 10 years, fears of repetition can begin to show. Director and Artist-in-Residence Erin Clemons knew how to make this version her own. “Because I love the question in the show of whether Winnie should ride this natural “wheel” of life or decide to live forever, I wanted to lean into the ancient idea of the elements of nature: Air, Earth, Fire and Water,” Clemons said.
Clemons, a UCO alumna, is no stranger to musical theatre, having performed on Broadway and international tours in Hamilton, Les Misérables and Prince of Broadway, as well as working regionally in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Ragtime and Jesus Christ Superstar.
The UCO College of Fine Arts and Design is promoting tickets on its Instagram via the link in its description. As usual, UCO students will receive one free admission ticket with proper UCO identification.
“Come see our show! You will enjoy a great night of beautiful music and magical storytelling!” Clemons said.
