For those who’ve just moved into town and have never heard of the festival, or those who have never been, let’s run through a couple things to get you prepared:
What you’ll find:
- 160-plus artists from across the U.S.
- Paintings, jewelry, pottery, photography and more
- A Route 66 and “Happy the Hippo” themed showcase
- Festival food (funnel cakes, corn dogs, BBQ, ice cream, etc.) and local restaurants nearby
- Free concerts Friday and Saturday nights
- Live music and performances all weekend
A shuttle will run every 15 minutes between campus and the festival. Those interested can park at or walk to designated UCO lots on the west side of 1st and University. In a few minutes, you’ll be at the festival.
So what is the Edmond Arts Festival?
The event is organized every year by the Downtown Edmond Business Association. It’s expected to feature 166 artists from across the country, many of them setting up paintings, jewelry, pottery and other works for visitors to browse.
The festival weekend will be filled with local musicians, concerts and school groups performing on several stages. There will also be two evening concerts. One will feature Highway 66 Band on Friday and Bottom of the Barrel on Saturday. Both are completely free to attend.
For those not interested in art or music, the festival will also have interactive activities like yard games, a marketplace area and family-friendly entertainment. It will have food vendors offering a variety of festival staples for visitors to enjoy, and downtown restaurants will remain open.
Whether you’re an academically stressed college student, a parent looking to make memories, or someone searching for a place to spend your lunch break, head to the arts festival for an experience worth checking out. So grab your camera and a corn dog, and visit some of the local businesses in the creative community that calls Edmond home.
